Phillies activate Lieberthal, demote backup Ruiz
The Philadelphia Phillies activated catcher Mike Lieberthal from the 15-day disabled list and optioned backup catcher Carlos Ruiz to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Lieberthal was batting .297 with no homers and seven RBI when he was hit on his left knee by a pitch from Atlanta's John Thomson on May 4. He was placed on the DL the following day with a contusion on his left knee.
Lieberthal played in two rehab games at Double-A Reading, going 1-for-6 with two RBI. He caught nine innings in the two games.
Ruiz hit .143 with no homers and an RBI in 14 games with the Phillies.
